Kael Verik, the Shadowed Architect of the Consortium:

In these troubled days upon Arche Terre, one name is whispered with unease: Kael Verik. A man of sharp wit and darker repute, he standeth amongst the famed Verik brethren, rulers of the powerful guild known as Verik Synapse Dynamics, oft tied to the strange Consortium that descendeth from the heavens.

The Consortium, feared and marveled at in equal measure, is said to be wrought of thinking machines, beings akin to golems yet born not of sorcery, but of craft that bendeth the very laws of nature. Since their return some years past, their reach hath grown, and many now fear their designs upon Arche Terre.

At the heart of these tidings standeth Kael Verik, whose name is bound to the dread workings of Epsilon Black 9, a design whose consequences have brought ruin to sundry lands. His house hath also forged unnatural creations, such as Catherine and the more recent Xian, a being wrought of both metal and living flesh, joined by arts most unsettling.

Yet this man is not hailed by all as a master of progress. Tales are told that when misfortune befell his own halls, and the monstrous things he had wrought broke free, Kael Verik was swift to flee ere the danger was quelled. Thus do many question not only his craft, but his honor.

Now returned to power beneath the banner of the Protectorate of Elysium at Port Elysium, he casteth once more his long and uncertain shadow. Whether he be a herald of wondrous advancement or a bringer of peril yet unseen, none may say for certain. But this is known: so long as Kael Verik pursueth his designs, Arche Terre shall know no true peace from his looming shade.
