Of the Crown’s Jewels Stol’n, and Reclaim’d from Wingéd Pies by Subtle Wit
Oyez, kind folk of Archeterre, hearken well!
Not long past did our Gazette recount a grievous marvel: the Crown’s fair jewels were stol’n away in secret, leaving naught but whispers and wonder in the realm.
Now is the truth laid bare. By the keen wit of Master Ilphy and the steadfast Vincent D. Ryder, after long and heedful inquiry, the mystery hath been unriddled. The thieves, most strange to tell, were none other than pies—those merry, glitter-loving birds—who had borne the treasures unto their hidden nests!
The jewels be now restored in their full splendour, and great joy filleth the court. Rumour runneth swift that these two worthy seekers shall soon be honoured by the Crown for their noble deeds.
Thus are we reminded: not all mischief springeth from wicked hearts, but mayhap from feather and fancy.
Go lightly, dear reader—and keep watch o’er all that shineth, lest wingéd tricksters be near!
